There was a significant fire around 1961 or 1962 at Cascade Lanes. I know this because I saw it happening. I worked on a Chicago Daily News city circulation truck back then and Madison and Hamlin was our relay point. I spent lots of time sitting in the truck waiting for our relay driver to come down Madison and one of the times spent there was when the fire was happening. This was on a Saturday.
I remember the old bowling alley
I was in a bowling league, mid 50″s and we held our bowling nights at Cascade..
thanks for viewing and taking the time to add insight.
The Cascade Bowling Alley burned on the afternoon of November 14, 1990. The owner had sold out to Aldi several months prior.
The audio of the fire department radio traffic is available on YouTube.
